Hello! My name is Melissa. I am the face behind Backyard Picassos and a mama myself. As a former Elementary Art Teacher, the love and passion for making art runs deep in my soul. Once I had children of my own, that love grew. The majority of our days are spent creating and exploring and I am so excited to share those experiences with your family. My background in art education and experience teaching children of all ages has provided me with the insight and first hand experience of not only planning lessons, but conducting these lessons while supporting children, both physically & emotionally, through the process.

Backyard Picassos' art classes are inspired by the philosophies found within the Reggio Emilia & Waldorf classrooms. Your children will be encouraged to take the lead and create collaboratively with their peers (& you!!). Classes will take place outdoors allowing nature to inspire and guide children through their creations. While attending these classes, we have the opportunity to learn alongside our children and follow their lead as they navigate new experiences & explore new ideas.
